Miner. Alaskan. Adventurer.

Meet Morgan

Morgan Lauren is following in the footsteps of her great-grandpa, Herb Boyle, who ventured to Alaska in 1951 to mine. He and his wife, Patricia, settled in Sutton — a small coal mining town.

Morgan’s passion for prospecting started at a young age. Growing up in Alaska she says she doesn’t remember a time before prospecting, “Alaska is freedom and prosperity. If you enjoy the outdoors and prospecting this is the place to be. I’m so thankful to have been born and raised here. Not many kids are raised around the mining industry and I remember not just seeing gold as a kid, but seeing it by the coffee can load.”

Morgan’s family would ride out to remote locations to pan and dredge. The trips slowly grew from quick day panning trips to multi-day dredging as the kids grew older and more capable. Eventually, she started venturing into Alaska’s wilderness to recover gold on her own.

After high school Morgan began working in Prudhoe Bay, AK in the Alaskan oilfield. At 18 she got her foot in the door as a housekeeper while learning about opportunities in the field. About a year later she was picked up by an engineering contractor as a general laborer. It was this job that Morgan says sculpted and pushed her into the remainder of her oilfield career. During her time with the engineering contractor she learned the basics of construction, how to read blue prints, how to weld & build scaffolding, how to sandblast and coat and had her first work related seat time in a loader and skid steer.

Over the summer of 2022 a friend out of Wasilla, AK had discovered trace amount of gold on his property. Morgan brought over a spiral wheel and taught him how to use it and how to separate the gold from the concentrate further.

That following winter his friend, Rick, reached out to him looking for equipment operators for the spring time to work his gold claim. The mutual friend suggested Morgan to Rick and after communicating back-and-forth a bit, they felt she was good fit. The summer of 2023 Morgan spent 6.5 months working for Rick at his mine in Keno, Yukon, Canada. She ran loader, excavator and rock trucks while also working the gold room to clean the gold.

Morgan is continuing to learn from her gold mining mentors and collecting equipment to eventually operate her own mine in Alaska. In the meantime, she’s having fun adventuring finding gold and other precious metals everywhere she can.
